Golf Cruises: Tee Times Between Sail-Aways

A golf cruise lets you play a different course in a different country on consecutive days without packing your bag more than once. You play in port, then walk back aboard to dinner while the ship carries you to the next first tee.

Some golf cruises are organized programs with a golf host, pre-arranged tee times and transport. Others are self-planned: you choose an itinerary with courses close to the pier and book rounds yourself or through the cruise line’s excursion desk.

Where to Cruise for Golf

RegionWhy golfers like itSeason to consider
BermudaSeveral courses close together on a small island; ships often stay overnightSpring through fall
Caribbean & BahamasResort courses on many islands, short transfers on someYear-round; winter is peak
Mexican RivieraDesert-meets-ocean layouts near Cabo San Lucas and Puerto VallartaLate fall through spring
HawaiiResort and championship courses on several islandsYear-round
British IslesThe game’s homeland; links golf near several portsLate spring through early fall

Ports and tee-time access change, so treat this as a starting point. Our cruise advisors at Mister Cruise can check which sailings give you the most time ashore in the ports you want.

Golf Aboard Ship

  • Mini-golf courses on the top decks of many larger ships — fun rather than serious practice.
  • Putting greens on some premium and luxury ships.
  • Golf simulators on a number of ships, sometimes for a fee, so you can play famous courses on a sea day.
  • Driving nets on some vessels, for keeping your swing loose between ports.

Courses in ports such as Florida and Bermuda are often a short taxi ride from the pier.

Golf Cruise Tips

  • Choose itineraries with long port days or overnight stays.
  • Book tee times as early as the course allows, especially in winter.
  • Allow travel time both ways and return to the ship at least an hour before all-aboard.
  • Pack golf shoes, a glove and a few balls even if you rent clubs.
  • If your group is large, ask about a golf host or a private tour operator in each port.

Golf Cruise Questions

Can I bring my own golf clubs on a cruise?

Most cruise lines allow golf clubs as luggage, but rules on storage and size vary. Check your line’s policy and your airline’s fees, or rent clubs at the course in port.

Do cruise lines sell golf shore excursions?

Many do, in ports with good courses nearby. You can also book an independent tee time; just leave plenty of margin to return before all-aboard time.

Which cruise regions are best for golf?

Bermuda, the Caribbean, Mexico’s Pacific coast, Hawaii and the British Isles all have courses within reach of cruise ports.
